I really enjoyed this collection of stories and really loved JH's debut novel as well. I think it's unfortunate that he keeps getting compared to his father instead of strictly on the merit of his own writing. He is a gifted writer who weaves stories that will draw you in and keep you entertained.
Anyway, back to 20thCG, my favorite stories were Voluntary Committal and Best New Horror and unlike most short story collections I've read I actually enjoyed most of the pieces herein instead of a mere handful. A story I liked but didn't fit my definition of a horror tale but was just an odd piece was Pop Art. The above two though are stories that will stay in your mind long after you've read them. The BNH twist of a horror story being about a horror story - genius! It was also one of the creepiest tales I've ever read, hands down.
Overall, this book and Mr. Hill should be judged on their own merit and not by who his papa is who, after all, is in a class all his own.
