As with the 1st Maccarrick Bros title "If You Dare" this book featured a brawny Scotsman, Hugh, the middle brother. Unlike Court, Hugh has been in love with Jane, his boss's daughter, for a torturous ten years, and she with him. Like his bros Hugh believes that they're cursed and that getting involved with a Maccarrick will only lead to a tragic outcome. Yet when Hugh receives word that the rouge agent, Grey Davis, has targeted Jane Hugh rushes to her side and agrees to marry her in hopes that it'll keep her safe.
The relationship between Jane and Hugh is a complicated one. They met when she was 13 and he was 18 and Jane forming a crush on the gentle-hearted Hugh constantly followed him around. They developed a close friendship and Jane assumed that when she reached 18 they would marry, but instead Hugh left without a face-to-face goodbye and now it was ten years later. Unbeknown to Jane,
her father's import-export business is a front for the Queen's secret band of assassins. Between this and his family's curse Hugh is afraid of what Jane will think when she finally learns the truth.
I enjoyed how once the secrets were out how Hugh and Jane weren't afraid to be vulnerable with one another. That, and how Jane's archery skill came into play was a real plus for me. Overall, this book is one I'd definitely recommend.
